Men of the 1st Bn, The Devonshire Regt sign their autographs on Japanese flags captured at Nippon Hill during the Battle of Imphal-Kohima, March - July 1944. The battle resulted from a Japanese Operation 'U-GO' designed to drive the British and Commonwealth troops back into India. The campaign was ended on 18 July 1944 after which the Japanese were forced onto the defensive. (IWM)
