Woman sewing together the strips of a girl's dance dress. This cloth, which is dark blue with white stripes and a deep rose-red border with lines of bright-coloured stitching, sometimes takes nearly a year to make. It is worn by unmarried girls as a dance dress, and by some of the richer ones as an everyday garment. This specimen is in the British Museum collection.
